Cold Laser
Therapy

Cold Laser Therapy
  • Cold laser therapy uses red and near-infrared wavelengths of light applied to damaged tissues, which increases the body’s healing process by approximately 30-40%.

Cold laser therapy offers therapeutic benefits like pain relief, decreased inflammation, increased movement and blood flow, and improved tissue healing to patients of all ages who are enduring acute and chronic conditions.

  • It’s an easy, painless process for the patient. Back In Motion Chiropractic uses a clinic-based laser therapy system like the one pictured above. The hand-held device that produces the various wavelengths of super-pulsed light is called an emitter and is about the size of your hand.

When the emitter is turned on, the laser begins penetrating deeply into the targeted area by super-pulsing the infrared light very quickly and continuing to increase the repetition and power throughout the session, providing a regenerative state where the cells can begin repairing the damage, resulting in less pain, decreased swelling, increased functionality and blood flow, and improved tissue healing.

  • It depends on the patient and the severity and type of condition the patient has (acute conditions respond differently than chronic conditions, for example).

    On average:

~ The typical treatment session is 5-15 minutes long but depends on the treatment area (s). Treatments could be as few as 8 sessions or as many as 30, depending on the treatment plan.

    Examples:

~ Chronic: 2-3 sessions a week, tapering to 1-2 session(s) a week, as improvements are seen

    OR

~ Acute: daily, depending on the pain

Back In Motion Chiropractic offers at-home renting and purchasing options, so office visits aren’t required. These options make low-level laser therapy even more affordable and recovery faster.

  • In one word: Yes.

It was invented in the 1960s and has been FDA-approved because it offers a safe, drug-free, and side-effect-free method for pain relief of acute and chronic injuries. The chiropractic office that Dr. Moreland worked in upon graduating from chiropractic school was the first clinic in Pennsylvania to use low-level laser therapy in 2003. Initially approved for use with carpal tunnel syndrome treatment, this modality has since been proven effective at treating various conditions. In addition, laser therapy just received FDA approval to treat fibromyalgia in 2022. More studies continue to show many benefits, leading to an increased list of conditions that low-level laser therapy can assist with patient care.

According to the FDA, as referenced in a 2020 pillar study, a patient’s functions increase when low-level laser therapy is combined with therapeutic exercise. In addition, many Olympic and major sports teams, including the NBA, NFL, NHL, NASCAR, MLS, and other sports teams and government agencies, use cold-laser therapy worldwide, according to the National Institute of Health.

A provider with nearly 20 years of clinical experience using low-level laser therapy, like Dr. Moreland makes this high-tech therapy even safer.
