Vibration Therapy

Whole Body Vibration Therapy
  • Whole Body Vibration Therapy (WBV) is a low-impact therapy that helps strengthen muscles. It can even be used when patients are in pain or have limited mobility. The Russian space program originally developed WBV, and today, many Olympic and professional athletes are currently using this same therapy that is available for patients at Back In Motion Chiropractic in Latrobe.

    1. Patients can choose to enjoy passive vibration, where they stand or sit on the vibration plate, or they can actively perform exercises on a platform that vibrates up and down

    2. This gentle action stimulates a stretch reflex and involuntary muscle contractions. (Think of it as being in an elevator that drops so quickly that your body tenses all of its muscles on its own without you doing anything, only without the feeling of falling.)

    3. The platform movement only travels a few millimeters and moves at speeds up to 50 times per second, so it doesn’t feel like you’re falling – it feels more like you’re on a riding lawnmower or a diesel pick-up truck

    4. Involuntary muscle contractions help tone and build muscle effectively because more muscle fibers are engaged during automatic muscle movement than during voluntary muscle movement
